A double header of football in St Loman’s Park on Monday saw the third team step up for their first round, with a wide range of players togging out. An early break in the play sees Daniel Murray run through the Dunsany defence and bury home for a well taken goal early in the game, the usual show from Neil Heffernan sees him wiggle through with no space and slot over. The “experienced” team was playing well with the breeze but not taking all their chances and paying the price for this in the second half. Some lovely link up play sees Andy O’Brien take a lovely score for himself to keep the scoreboard moving. A brilliant run through the middle from Robbie Kenny gets himself a lovely point from play. Going in at the halftime slightly behind but hopeful for the second half.
Coming out in the second half with their spirits high Trim hoped to capitalise on the strong shift they put in in the first half, taking the first score of the half the redemption looked to be strong but Dunsany using the second half breeze and young legs to their advantage in the second half took control, shooting into toward the pitch end they kept popping their scores taking full advantage of the strong breeze on Sunday evening. The second half saw the return of some younger players to Trim football and with Max McGowan, Ethan Butterly and Sean Halton coming into the play the hopes were high. Neily heff as present as ever keeping the scoreboard moving and slowly closing the gap but a 2 point game to play for and the legs getting tired was just too much for this team to overcome, the chances were there but unable to be taken and as Gus Martin sounds the final whistle it was disappointment for the lads but great possibilities ahead for future rounds.
Neither of the two home games going Trim’s way on the day but a good home support out for the lads. A testament to the work of the management both on and off the pitch was evident in the majority of the 3 panels present at the three games over the Sunday and Monday out supporting each other.
