Last Friday evening at St. Loman’s Park Trim's U-19 footballers opened their Division 2 Championship campaign with hard fought victory over neighbours Summerhill. Trim got off to a flying start with a fine point from play from Jesse O’Rourke in the first minute. Summerhill responded with 3 points of their own in the following 10 minutes but Trim drew themselves level with a huge two point free scored by Kyle Ennis. Points soon followed from Jesse O’Rourke (2) and Daniel Fox but it was Summerhill who finished the half strongly scoring 4 points (3 from frees). However a Kyle Ennis point in added time at the end of the first half saw the sides head into the half-time break level at 7 points a piece.
Trim moved into a 3 point lead after 5 minutes of the second half. A Trim attempt at a point was partially blocked down and Cathal O’Reilly was the first to react, beating the Summerhill goalkeeper to the ball and finishing to the net from a tight angle. The visitors responded impressively with 3 unanswered points before Kyle Ennis put the Trim men back in front with a point from play. Trim put themselves in pole position with just 10 minutes remaining when Cathal O’Reilly looped a handpass over the advancing Summerhill goalkeeper for Kyle Ennis to stretch and fist the ball to the back of the net. A Jesse O’Rourke free extended the gap to 4 points with under 10 minutes to go. A Summerhill free reduced the gap to a single score with 5 minutes remaining but some resolute Trim defending meant that this was as close as they got.
