In a cold St Loman’s park Trim faced Navan in this 2nd round encounter. Navan first to move the score board but Kyle Ennis in quick reply to slot over from a placed ball and again in the same minute from the following puc out, Navan aren’t going down easy as they take their own 2 scores to take the lead again. Eoghan Ryan sends a flying ball from his own half which is arguably waved wide by the ref against the umpires decision. Ian Byrne is first to score from play for the lads in red after some brilliant play from the O’Reilly and Slattery pair in the middle of the field. George Douglas eager to keep this pressure on the Navan defence sends over a flyer from his own half back line after a brilliant interception. Ennis comes out to play again and he proves his capabilities and puts a placed ball over the bar from his own 45 meter line. Douglas again with free reign of his own half back line brilliantly gets Ian Byrne away from his marker and, with quick eyes spots Ennis across the pitch, a pin point pass sees Ennis in front of goal, you know the ending leaving the keeper no chance as the net rattles and the green flag raises.
Trim 1-15 Nom 0-6
Trim fire back straight away in the second half as Daniel Murray fires home with a pull on the ground to get Trim a second goal. As Tadhg Foley just enters the field of play his impact adding to the tally straight away. Teams going score for score after that, with both sides battling hard and producing some brilliant passages of play.
However, midway through the half, Trim begin to take control. Their physicality around the middle and sharpness in front of goal start to tell, as points from Bryne, Foley, and Ennis stretch the lead. The defence, led by centre back Eoghan Ryan, stands firm, turning over possession time and again and setting up many counterattacks.
As the game moves into the final quarter, Trim’s fitness and composure shine through. They dominate possession and pick off scores at will, while their work rate off the ball prevents any chance of a comeback. Despite the scoreboard widening, both teams continue to contest every ball fiercely, with some crunching tackles and determined defending on display right to the final whistle.
In the end, Trim run out comfortable winners on the scoreboard, a result that reflects their control and clinical finishing in the second half. Still, the game was a brilliant, physical battle - full of heart, intensity, and moments of real quality from both sides.
